Leovet Bio-Skin Oil Horse Care and First Aid 500ml
Leovet bio-Skin Oil – 500ml
bio-Skin Oil sits in leovet's Itching range, and they are direct about what it is for: the effective treatment of summer eczema. It is a pourable oil rather than a cream, which means it spreads over a rubbed mane crest or tail dock without being worked in hard — useful on skin that is already sore and that the horse would rather you left alone.
The blend is five plant ingredients, each of which leovet describe individually: bio-sulphur fluid, calendula oil, St John's wort oil, carrot oil and sunflower oil. Between them leovet claim it regenerates and restores damaged skin areas, soothes itching, reduces the urge to rub, and stimulates hair growth on bald spots. The 500ml bottle is the size to buy if you are treating a crest and a dock through a whole midge season.
Performance & Benefits
- Bio-sulphur fluid — leovet credit it with reducing itching and scratching and with a regenerating effect on skin.
- Calendula oil — leovet say it supports regeneration and circulation in sensitive skin.
- St John's wort oil — described by leovet as soothing irritation and particularly suited to dry, cracked skin.
- Carrot oil — high in vitamin A; leovet list it as moisturising and softening for dry, cracked skin.
- Sunflower oil — soothing and moisturising, reinforcing the skin's natural barrier.
- leovet state it stimulates hair regrowth on bald patches left by rubbing.
Suitable For
- Horses that rub the mane crest, tail dock or midline through the midge season.
- Dry, cracked or flaking skin that needs an oil rather than a wash.
- Bare patches where the hair has been rubbed out and needs to come back.
- Use alongside a fly rug and a repellent — this is a skin care oil, not an insect barrier. Leovet Power Phaser or TamTamVet do the repelling.
How to Use
- Clean and dry the area first; oil on top of scurf and mud does very little.
- Apply thinly to the affected skin — crest, dock, midline — and spread with a gloved hand.
- Repeat as often as the skin needs it through the midge months.
- Wash your hands afterwards and keep the cap on; it is an oil and it will mark rugs and clothing.
- leovet publish no frequency or quantity on their website, so no dose is stated here.
Specification
- 500ml bottle.
- Named ingredients: bio-sulphur fluid, calendula oil, St John's wort oil, carrot oil, sunflower oil.
- leovet publish no percentages, no full INCI list and no pack size on their website, so none is given here.
- Made by leovet Dr. Jacoby GmbH & Co. KG, Lahnau, Germany. Barcode 4033081020021.
- Sold in Germany as bio-Hautöl, listed by leovet under Itching rather than grooming.
Care & Caution
- For intact skin. Do not put it into an open, weeping or infected wound — that needs a vet.
- Keep out of the eyes and off mucous membranes.
- Summer eczema that is worsening, bleeding or infected is a veterinary matter; a care oil is a support, not a diagnosis.
- Patch test a small area first on a horse with known skin sensitivities.
- If you compete, check leovet's current FN/ADMR doping-relevance list before use — they do not publish a status for this product on its own page.
