Baileys No.10 Racehorse Mix 20kg – Premium Nutrition for Peak Performance
Baileys No.10 Racehorse Mix – 20kg
No.10 is Baileys' oat-based racing mix and the most energy-dense feed in the range at 14 MJ/kg. Bruised oats sit alongside micronised wheat, maize, peas and soya beans, and soya oil takes total oil to 8.5% so that not every calorie has to come out of grain.
Starch is 32%, which is what fast work needs and what a resting horse does not. Digest Plus scFOS prebiotic goes in at 2.5g/kg to support the hindgut against that starch load, and the mix is fully balanced with calcium at 1% and phosphorus at 0.5%. Supplied in 20kg.
Performance & Benefits
- 14 MJ/kg — the highest energy density in the Baileys range.
- Bruised oats plus micronised wheat, maize and peas for fast-release energy.
- 8.5% oil, so a share of the calories comes from oil rather than starch alone.
- 13% protein from soya bean meal, micronised soya beans and distillers' grains.
- Digest Plus scFOS prebiotic at 2.5g/kg.
- Fully balanced: calcium 1%, phosphorus 0.5%, vitamins and minerals included.
Suitable For
- Racehorses in moderate to hard work.
- Horses needing quick-release energy and power rather than slow-release stamina.
- Trainers who prefer a mix to a cube and want batch-to-batch consistency.
- Eventers and point-to-pointers in full work.
- Far too much energy for a horse in light work, and wrong for a laminitic — Baileys No.2 Working Cubes or No.24 Ease & Excel Cubes are the sensible steps down.
Feeding
- Feed by weight alongside forage. One level Stubbs round bowl scoop holds about 1.5kg of mix.
- Baileys cap a meal at 0.5kg of mix per 100kg bodyweight — 2.5kg for a 500kg horse.
- Total meal size should stay within 1.5–2kg for a horse or 1.25–1.5kg for a pony, chaff and beet pulp included.
- At racing quantities, split the daily ration across three or four feeds.
- Baileys publish their per-workload rates on the bag rather than online; their nutrition team will set one.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: oats (bruised), micronised wheat, soya bean meal, molasses, micronised maize, micronised soya beans, micronised peas, soya oil, distillers' grains, alfalfa meal, dicalcium phosphate, cooked linseed, soya bean hulls, vitamins and minerals, calcium carbonate, calcined magnesite, sodium chloride, scFOS (Digest Plus prebiotic) at 2.5g/kg. Supplied in a 20kg bag.
- Digestible energy 14 MJ/kg. Protein 13%. Oil 8.5%. Fibre 8%. Ash 6%.
- Starch 32%. Sugar 6.5%.
- Calcium 1%. Phosphorus 0.5%.
- Baileys make no BETA, FEI or BHA approval statement for this mix, so none is claimed here.
Care & Caution
- Starch is 32%. Not suitable for a horse with laminitis, insulin resistance, PPID or a history of tying-up.
- Keep to Baileys' 0.5kg per 100kg bodyweight per meal. Large cereal meals are the route to hindgut acidosis.
- Cut the ration back on rest days. A horse held on racing energy while standing in is a classic tying-up risk.
- Introduce it over two to three weeks rather than switching in a day.
