A balancer formulated specifically for donkeys and mules, which is rarer than it should be — most owners end up feeding a horse product and hoping.

Donkeys are not small horses. They evolved in arid environments, extract more from poor forage than horses do, and are far more prone to obesity and hyperlipaemia on a diet that would suit a pony. A donkey-specific balancer accounts for that: full nutrition, minimal calories.

Feeding

• TopSpec's example ration for a standard 11hh, 150kg donkey is 150g of Donkey Forage Balancer with 200g of TopChop Zero daily.
• Feed alongside the donkey's normal forage — typically barley straw with limited hay or grazing.
• TopSpec state a 20kg sack lasts two standard donkeys around two months at that rate.
• Provide access to a salt lick at all times.
• Ensure clean, fresh water is always available.

• Composition: high fibre oat by-product, grass, calcium carbonate, dried beet pulp, linseed expeller, wheatfeed, molasses, soya bean meal (GM), vitamin premix, sodium chloride, dicalcium phosphate, magnesium oxide, mannan oligosaccharides.
• Typical analysis: protein 11.5%, oil 3.2%, fibre 19.0%, starch 6.5%.
• Digestible energy 8.9 MJ/kg.
• Calcium 2.5%, magnesium 0.6%.
• Vitamin E 2,500 iu/kg, biotin 30.0mg/kg.

Care & Caution

• Donkeys are highly prone to obesity, laminitis and hyperlipaemia. A donkey that stops eating needs veterinary attention quickly — they deteriorate faster than horses and hide pain far better.
