This is the plainest of the Canagan cat pouches: fresh chicken at 80%, chicken broth, and 1% cranberry, with nothing else competing for room. There is no second meat and no fish anywhere in it, which is what makes it the one to reach for when you are trying to establish what a cat does and does not react to.

At 80% moisture a pouch carries a useful amount of water into a cat that ignores its bowl, and Canagan add taurine at 1,500 mg/kg so it stands up as a meal rather than a garnish. Green lipped mussel, safflower oil, aloe vera and rosemary make up the short remainder of the list.

Feeding

• Canagan's guide is 1.5–2.5 pouches a day for a 3–5kg cat, 2.5–3.5 for 5–7kg, and 3.5 or more above 7kg.
• Serve at room temperature. Refrigerate an opened pouch and use it the same day.
• Introduce over a few days, raising the proportion of the new food each day.
• Drop the ration by 10% for an overweight cat and raise it by 10% for an underweight one.
• Keep fresh water available even though the food is four-fifths water.
