Shredded chicken breast at 58% with crab meat at 5%, cooked in 31% chicken broth. Crab is the least likely thing in the Canagan range for a cat to have met before, which is the whole appeal: a shellfish note strong enough to interest a cat that has stopped caring about chicken, without changing the base recipe underneath.

The chicken does the nutritional work and the crab does the persuading. Protein is declared at 16.5% and fat at 3%, so swapping between this and the other chicken cans changes the flavour on top without moving the numbers underneath.

Feeding

• Canagan publish one figure for their cat cans: two to three cans a day for any adult cat.
• Canagan publish no separate kitten figure for the cans — their kitten guides cover the dry food and the 85g pouches — so feed a kitten to condition and growth.
• Canagan advise adjusting by 10% either way if your cat is carrying too much or too little condition.
• Serve at room temperature — cold from the fridge dulls the smell, and cats feed on smell.
• Cover and refrigerate an opened can and use it within a day.
