Of the sixteen Canagan 75g cans, this is the one with the highest declared protein: 17% crude protein against 16–16.5% for the rest. The difference is small on paper and worth having in practice, because every gram of it is coming from shredded chicken breast at 58% and beef at 5% rather than from a plant protein.

Beef is also the only red meat in the whole can range, which makes this the recipe to reach for when a cat has grown bored of poultry and fish and you want to change the flavour without leaving the range.

Feeding

• Canagan publish one figure for their cat cans: two to three cans a day for any adult cat.
• Canagan publish no separate kitten figure for the cans — their kitten guides cover the dry food and the 85g pouches — so feed a kitten to condition and growth.
• Canagan advise adjusting by 10% either way if your cat is carrying too much or too little condition.
• Serve at room temperature — cold from the fridge dulls the smell, and cats feed on smell.
• Cover and refrigerate an opened can and use it within a day.
