Poultry Gold is Copdock Mill's coarse mixed feed for laying hens: wheat, cut maize, peas and linseed with hen grit and oyster shell blended through it, milled at Copdock in Suffolk. The grit and the shell are the point of it. Flint grit gives the gizzard something hard to grind whole grain against; oyster shell dissolves and supplies the calcium a hen draws on to build a shell. They do different jobs and a flock needs both.
